In the Pursuit of Balanced Groups: A SAS® Macro for an Adaptive Randomization Test
نویسندگان
چکیده
In adaptive randomized experiments, researchers verify that random allocation yielded equivalent experimental groups before proceeding with data analysis. Given a precise definition of balanced groups (e.g., Cohen’s d < 0.5 for a continuous covariate), researchers may plan to keep reshuffling participants until balance is achieved. However, reshuffling can invalidate standard parametric tests, such as t-tests, F-tests, and -tests. This paper describes a non-parametric analog of the two-sample t-test, called an adaptive randomization test, which can preserve Type I error control in adaptive randomized experiments. Although such tests are well established in mainstream statistics (Morgan & Rubin, 2015), they are not readily available in SAS making them difficult to implement. This paper provides an overview of adaptive randomization tests, presents a macro for doing them in base SAS, and concludes with an executed example of the macro.

Using SAS® to Perform Robust I-Sample Analysis of Means Type Randomization Tests for Variances
A SAS macro for performing Analysis of Means (ANOM) type randomization tests for testing the equality of I variances is presented. Randomization techniques for testing statistical hypotheses can be used when parametric tests are inappropriate. Suppose that I independent samples have been collected. Randomization tests are based on shuffles or rearrangements of the (combined) sample. Putting eac...

Permuted-block randomization with varying block sizes using SAS® Proc Plan Permuted-block randomization is often used in determining treatment assignments for clinical trials. This method allows flexibility in achieving balanced allocation of subjects among treatment groups and is further enhanced with increased randomness of the assignments by the use of varying block sizes. Chow and Liu (2004...
متن کاملA S A S R Macro for the Multivariate Extension of the Kruskal - Wallis Test Including Multiple Comparisons : Randomization and Z 2 Criteria 1 Warren
In a multi-group experimental design where interest is in a univariate response, the nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test [Kniskal and Wallis (1952)] provides a potentially more powerful alternative to the parametric one-way analysis of variance when the assumptions of normality are in question. For multivariate response, Puri and Sen (1966) proposed a generalization of the KmskalWallis test that ...
متن کاملA SAS macro for constrained randomization of group-randomized designs
Group-randomized study designs are useful when individually-randomized designs either are not possible, or will not be able to estimate the parameters of interest. Group-randomized trials often have small number of experimental units or groups and strong geographically-induced between-unit correlation, thereby increasing the chance of obtaining a "bad" randomization outcome. It has been suggest...
